Formation of the Higher Chakra System – Sixth Chakra, Third Eye
The sixth chakra, or the Ajna, in Sanskrit; also known as ‘the third eye’. The pituitary gland is associated with it. The pineal gland is also involved with kundalini energy as it reaches the sixth chakra, but the pineal is more related to the seventh chakra. The pituitary is not the third eye itself; it is the physical gland that channels energy there.
All chakras both send and receive energy, and glands are the first physical step-down modulation. The ‘third eye’ is involved with receiving energy, as information and visions. In clairvoyant healing work like my own, it can also send energy, much like a laser beam. The ancient literature of the Yogic Masters of India contains most of the best written information on this subject. I have read a little of this, but I base most of my knowledge on the mystery school I attended and graduated from, and continuing personal experience. I also had a Kriya Yoga initiation from an Indian disciple named Sri Rangin Mukherjee, who is in the undiluted direct lineage of Lahiri Mahasaya, 5 souls downstream from the immortal Master of the Himalayas himself, Babaji.
I found much authentic material in translations of ancient Vedic texts on the transformative qualities of Kundalini. This Shakti energy and the powers (siddhis) that are acquired through such experience, including the awakening of the third eye, are best found in esoteric teachings of Kashmir Shivaism. According to the literature, once Kundalini has risen to the pituitary gland, it merges with the cosmic light which the pineal gland has received in the third ventricle of the brain. Using Kundalini awakening techniques can be dangerous and is often successfully undertaken with the guidance of a master teacher (Guru) through years of disciplined spiritual work, leading to shaktipat initiation. However, accelerating one’s kundalini with years of training is only one way that the third eye opens. This life force energy ebbs and flows naturally throughout our various lives.
Self-awareness and healing that is well suited to any seeker, Eastern or Western, may organically accomplish this. One should understand that third eye awakening is not something that you can make happen apart from the whole of your individual growth and spiritual evolution. Purification and clearing of the entire system must happen, and it will reflect this in the chakras and subtle bodies. It is a side-effect, not the primary goal. A few individuals, gifted with this inner sight from childhood, never lose it, and spontaneous awakening of the ajna center happens to some, unbidden.
There are many accounts of those with no belief in anything spiritual that have strong psychic powers. Thus, such powers do not indicate proof of spiritual evolution, but spiritual evolution does bring such powers, known as siddhis. Seeking these powers is universally discouraged in the literature because of the tendency of aspirants to get derailed by their ego after acquiring them. However, as a tool to use within a healing practice, I have found them to be extremely helpful and to be part of my dharma, my path to awakening.
The second, third, and fourth chakras hold the primary wounds that need healed before the higher chakras become integrated, aligned, and open. I often see people with a fairly open third eye, but most are seeing through many ‘veils’ or filters. This is of the traits carried over from other lives. Trauma and wounds almost all originate in our childhood, having been ‘seeded’ there, and then become reinforced through our life’s patterns.
These difficult life situations may seem random. In reality, we made the agreement with our soul mates to help us undergo these situations on earth-plane for the advancement of our souls. In the causal realm, without a body, there is no way for our soul to build character. This is why ‘earth school’ seems to be so difficult and even cruel. When we shed our body and return to that higher realm, it actually seems as if it just took place in a moment.
Traumas, fears, and emotional wounds are as real in the energetic realm as a wound in the physical, but that they do not self-heal so easily or quickly, and contribute to samskaras and vasanas (latent karmic tendencies and traits that influence ones’ present-life nature). They have shapes, colors, and many other qualities that can identify them, including emotions and even personalities. They always contain consciousness, usually a simple kind that seems quite separate from our awareness, yet with memories that coincide with our own.
The memory of what was happening in our lives when they entered is key to the healing process. I can easily help identify them, channeled by the client and talked with as in a conversation. Using the voice dialog process and my Invocation of Light, they can transform. This happens with awareness and understanding of the energies, and often through the energies’ understanding of themselves as well. Many present as entities, while others are clearly organically self-generated. We must clear them before true spiritual work can even begin; what I am doing for clients is preliminary to the deepest spiritual work, akin to what purification by Kundalini Shakti may do.
However, most people simply wish to be rid of negative energies they sense as blocks, anxiety and other oppressive feelings, so that they may go about their lives, and that is fine. Outside energies (entities) almost always reside in the third chakra (the power center), with ‘tendrils’ that appear to reach out to various locations in the astral body, especially the heart chakra, nearby organs, and the spine. The energies I work with, whether attracted from outside or organically generated within, result in mental body illusions and conditioning that manifest as part of the client’s apparent reality. The energies cause enhanced feelings of separation and a cascade of illusion and unease down through the spiritual, mental, emotional, and etheric bodies into the physical (though it is not necessarily linear).
They can manifest as almost any kind of ailment and emotional block. The mental body holds the “pictures” of reality as we believe it, while the emotional body holds the ‘charge’, like the voltage of an electrical current. Thus, whatever is felt with deep emotion embeds within us, while the mental concept formed keeps the illusions in place. This is why trauma is so impactful.
Illusions are best perceived as ‘pictures’ of reality held in the mental body and are conceptual. To begin the opening and purification that leads to awakening, these old wounds and traumas need deep resolution. The resulting transformation and release of illusions about ourselves and our perception of reality allows a new realization of reality.
The heart needs this healing before we can truly clear the third eye veils for clear inner sight. Otherwise, we look through our own distortions; through a glass darkly. Chakras one through four must heal and be in balance for the higher chakras to open, and then they open automatically, like a flower.
The chatter of the judging mind must also quieten, which true meditation helps with. Finding a meditation practice that resonates and stays with one throughout the day is important. I recommend an effortless meditation, such as TM (Transcendental Meditation).
Many feel a strong desire to see auras and the sublime worlds. This is an ego desire. We must embark upon an honestly motivated quest of self-discovery to see and heal ourselves in order to see others with clear inner sight. With sincere dedication, the arduous path of stark self-honesty will eventually lead to the opening of the heart and a sincere desire to surrender to the Divine and help others.
As the eye of the heart opens and sees itself in the mirror of compassion, we see ourselves with acceptance and realize our own innate Divinity. We then can shed illusion and see others in the same light. This is like a call to the Divine, and opens the channel through the fifth, sixth and seventh chakras, to our Source. From this connection to the Sacred Divine in our crown chakra, the holy and sacred flows into our lives. Then, inner vision, astounding synchronicities, guidance and intuition leading to the ability to “read minds” and other such paranormal phenomena may manifest, to help others in ways that are not possible through traditional Western methods. These phenomena and abilities manifest through the third eye, the sixth chakra.
The sixth chakra has an esoteric connection with the third chakra.
